With years of experience advising sovereign nations and some of the most recognized companies across the globe, Dermond Thomas brings a valuable business perspective to all matters he handles. Dermond has helped sovereign nations and businesses achieve their goals from both a legal and a strategic point of view, and understands what it takes to get results.
Dermond has advised clients on matters including mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, corporate and public finance, commercial agreements, corporate strategy, implementation of business development initiatives, shareholder engagement, and corporate governance. Prior to joining CMM, Dermond was Director, Corporate Counsel, and Assistant Secretary at a multibillion-dollar industrial distributor, where he handled a variety of corporate legal matters and corporate governance initiatives. Dermond spent the early years of his legal career at two Am Law 100 firms where he first developed his deep corporate transactional experience representing sovereign nations, domestic and multinational companies in complex transactions.
Dermond was recently re-elected to serve his third term as a Trustee in the Incorporated Village of Valley Stream. As a member of the Board of Trustees, Dermond is responsible for adopting the Village’s $40 million+ budget, implementing various policies, programs and services, making official appointments, and addressing the concerns of the Village’s 38,000 residents. The first African-American ever to serve in this position, Dermond has focused on fostering good and transparent government, maintaining the integrity of the Village, cultivating new ways to enhance the lives of Village residents, and facilitating the use of Village resources to improve recreational programming.
Dermond is currently an Adjunct Professor at Hofstra University’s Maurice A. Deane School of Law and has served as a lecturer in corporate ethics at Columbia University School of Law.
